News: PM Sunak appoints Shapps as Secretary of State of newly created Energy Security and Net Zero Department
By Mohamed Safran - The Rt. Hon Grant Shapps MP has been appointed as Secretary of State for the newly established Energy Security and Net Zero Department after a cabinet reshuffle by British Conservative Prime Minister Rishi Sunak took place. Shapps' appointment comes in the wake of the dismissal of Nadhim Zahawi, the ex-Chancellor of the Exchequer, and in conjunction with the PM's five reiterated policy objectives of reducing inflation and growing the British economy, reducing debt, cutting GP waiting lists and protecting British borders from illegal immigration.
In a Government press statement, Sunak told reporters: "A new Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, has been tasked with securing our long-term energy supply, bringing down bills and halving inflation. The move recognises the significant impact rising prices have had on households across the country as a result of Putin's illegal war in Ukraine, and the need to secure more energy from domestic nuclear and renewable sources as we seize the opportunities of net zero."
