People Moves: Hive Energy appoints Mike O'Neil as Chief Executive Officer of Hive Renewables
Press Release - Hive Energy has appointed Mike O'Neill as CEO of Hive Renewables, a business within the Hive Energy Group dedicated to the development of grid connected solar, battery storage, and wind projects. This move follows Hive's global expansion, and the broadening of its development activity to complement its focus on solar PV projects.
Mike O'Neill joins Hive with over 25 years' experience as an energy executive. His extensive business development expertise includes establishing operations and expanding into new markets, which will support Hive's ambitious plans to continue its growth. Mr O'Neill will oversee and manage the entirety of Hive's solar, wind, and storage pipeline.
Hive Renewables has a pipeline of over 170 projects in 20 countries, totalling nearly 13 GW - once complete, the projects will generate enough energy to power 2.5 million homes annually. Hive Energy has completed the development of 46 solar PV projects in the UK, Spain, Türkiye, and Cuba, which have either been constructed or sold at ready-to-build stage. As more countries adopt renewable energy strategies in line with global climate change agreements and to address concerns over energy security, the requirement for clean energy generation will continue to grow exponentially in coming years.
"I am really pleased to have Mike on board. Mike brings a wealth of experience to Hive and I'm sure will be a fantastic asset to the Hive Group. Our 14 Country Managers will report directly to Mike, which will provide them with additional support in the development of their pipelines." Comments Giles Redpath, CEO and Founder of Hive Energy.
Mr Redpath continues; "Hive has grown substantially over the past decade. While we were once solely a solar developer, we now have an array of technologies and developments within the Hive Group including circular economy projects: Hive Ventures, Hive Aggregates, and Hive Ecosystems. The division that Mike will oversee is by far the most mature and deserves the opportunity to establish its own path, which it can now do with his leadership."
Mike O'Neill, Hive Renewables CEO, commented on his new appointment: "I am delighted to be joining Hive to build on the impressive foundation that Giles and the team have established, and to help it to realise its full potential. The global energy challenges we face are unprecedented, and the role of renewable generation in helping to address this is now at the centre of energy policy worldwide. We have the mandate to accelerate the development of this critical infrastructure, and to channel the necessary impactful investment."
